My husband Jay and his journey with Crohn's

A year and a half ago, we found out that my husband had Crohn’s Disease. The disease presented aggressively. The news was devastating and rocked our lives for the better part of a year.

Just as things were settling down from the emotional storm, he faced a big decision about whether he would opt to take immunosuppressants medication. At 35 years old, I was hopeful that we could treat him with natural remedies that would take down inflammation and manage the disease without compromising his immune system.

I reached out to Doctors, Specialists, Naturopathic Doctors and other resources to learn about his options but nothing seemed right for Jay. After hours of research, I found a natural protocol that works for him — even his GI Doctor was on board with the plan.

To be totally transparent, I’m not a Doctor of any kind, and I’m not about preaching what’s right and wrong. I’m simply a resourceful, determined Health Coach and Writer who has always approached healing intuitively.

Fast forward three months, we visited his specialist for a routine GI scope and received amazing results. Even his specialist couldn’t believe that he didn’t need to opt for traditional medications. It turned out that the inflammation in his bowel registered at a minor level, these results were a huge jump from his original critical state. He was now able to manage the disease and get back to the things he enjoyed.

Everything was stable until my husband flared again after our spring trip — airplanes can be cruel to the delicate microbiome! At this point, I made some small changes and decided to look into different probiotics to include in his protocol. We tried the Bacillus Coagulans strain (a dried, capsule formula) previously, but when I found bioflor7, I knew it was different.  I discovered that bioflor7 has16 Billion CFU of Bacillus Coagulans in their formula whereas most other companies only average 2 Billion CFU.  I was also excited about the biphase technology. I have read that when you separate the liquid from the probiotics, you get a more efficient, stronger, faster-acting product. For anyone not familiar with Bacillus Coagulans, it has been getting a lot of buzz in the natural supplements industry as a helpful aid for Crohn's and Colitis patients — the bacteria in this strain are encouraged to live longer in the gut (and duodenal environment) and multiply!  Also, unlike most probiotics, bioflor7 is both a prebiotic and a probiotic that contains aloe vera and B Complex which assists in the delivery and efficacy of the product.

We started a trial period with my husband last month, two solid weeks with bioflor7 and then off for a week and back on again for two weeks. The timing couldn't have been more perfect; he was due to see his GI specialist for an assessment on his recent flare in July. Lucky for us, the inflammation came down again, and his referral symptoms have subsided. The new protocol was making a difference!

I honestly can't say enough good things about bioflor7; we'll definitely be including it as part of his monthly treatment ongoing. As a bonus we love that it's portable, we're back from our summer vacation with great results. I had him dose his regular protocol and include bioflor7 on take off and landing (doubled the dose on flight days). Upon our return, everything is stable and inflammation remains low — feeling relaxed and ready for life!

NOTE: Phytogenex Nutraceuticals provided me a sample of their product to review, but I had already used and loved their probiotic prior.
